Nurses Make Good Money Today
There are many good jobs available for nurses. There is actually a short supply of nurses today. This is one reason why it is a good field to go into. There is job security and good income opportunity in the health care field. We live in a time when most careers are on the decline, but health care is on the rise.
If you want a career in health care, there are many schools you can attend. There are nurse programs in most community colleges. But there might be a waiting list for these programs because of the large interest in this career. But you can find a private vocational school that will enroll you. You might even qualify for financial assistance. Contact the financial aid department of the community college or the business office of the private vocational school.
Make sure to find out if the private vocational school is accredited. You need to be able to sit for the state board licensing exam. Also, choose a school that has a job placement service. Jobs are easy to find, but you need to have all the help you can get so you will be able to start working as soon as possible.
The first nurse level is LVN. You can work part or full time. The next nurse level is registered nurse. This nurse level is reached by completing advanced classes and training.
Many large hospitals have registered nurses in their key departments. They might hire regular nurses but require that they work their way to becoming a registered nurse. The registered nurse earns more money but also has more responsibility.
The registered nurse can then move up to a nurse practitioner. This position requires a masters degree. It is a great job because the pay is high and the practitioner can do many things a doctor can.
There are other areas of nursing that are available. Many like working in a home health care setting where they perform patient care for people in their homes. As the population ages, there are many who need a nurse either on a part or full time basis to administer medication or to care for them generally.
The nurse can help people in physical therapy. Many need help with their exercises in order to regain their bodily functions they might have lost due to injury or illness. The nurse will assist people throughout their exercises and other physical therapy sessions.
If you are searching for a great career, think about becoming a nurse. But do not choose this field only because you want to make good money and want job security. This would be a mistake.
Many go into this work because there are no jobs available in other areas. This is a demanding job and you need to want to take care of men and women in need. If you want to help people however, and you want to make a good salary, look at the nurse staffing field. The job scene for nurses is great and the need will grow for many years to come. This therefore, is a good field to enter.
Having trouble filling in nurse staffing shortage at your hospital? As one of the largest healthcare staffing companies in the country, they help connect highly qualified physicians and pharmacists with your hospital’s hospitalist jobs and physical therapy jobs.

Here Are Some Unorthodox Ways To Get Your Nursing Textbooks
Nursing textbooks are typically high priced, often costing in excess of $100 as of 2010. If you are the average student, purchasing books in this price range might easily cause financial hardship, at least on a temporary basis. Taking the time to consider the following tips before buying your nursing textbooks will help to ensure that your purchasing experience goes as smoothly as possible.
Don’t Buy Books Too Early
Try to avoid the temptation to buy your books before you either talk to the class instructor, or have your syllabus in hand. If you get your nursing textbooks too early changes might be made to the course, and while most school bookstores will exchange for reasons such as this, its simpler to get the right one the first time.
Get Your Books Online
There are many vendors that sell nursing textbooks online, both new and used. There are even websites that rent nursing textbooks to you for as long as you need them. Examples of these sites include Barnes & Noble and Chegg. When locating a book online, one of the easiest ways to search for it is by the ISBN number. This will help to ensure that you purchase the proper edition.
Read any disclosures if you are buying used textbooks to see if it is missing software, or if it was marked up by the owner before you, to see if it will be acceptable to you.
Post a “Want List”
Posting a wanted list on bulletin boards at your school, or on websites such as Craigslist, is a great way to get used nursing textbooks. Sites like Craigslist usually don’t charge to list items for sale in most categories so this is a great way to look for used nursing textbooks.
You also have the option of placing a small ad in your local newspaper or putting up “wanted” posters in your local convenience store, with manager permission. You never know who might have the book that you are searching for.
Consider Trading Goods Or Services
Trading for textbooks is done all the time. Say you have a small appliance, or have certain skills someone else can make use of, you could get your textbook or books cheaper that way.
The same holds true for any service that you might be willing to offer. There is nothing wrong with organizing someone’s closets, doing their taxes or any number of other things in exchange for good used nursing textbooks.

Travel Nursing Jobs Are A Great Adventure!
So what is a travel nurse? They serve the same purpose as full time nurses in a facility, except they are contracted to work for a set amount of time at the hospital through any travel nursing agencies.
Travel nursing jobs are a direct result of the lack of nurses in the US. To get qualified candidates to work travel nursing jobs, travel nursing agencies offer high pay and great incentives.
The requirements for travel nursing jobs include licensure in the state you want to work in, and usually at least a year of experience in your nurse specialty. But even if the requirement is one year of experience, the better jobs will go to the nurses with more experience.
Travel nursing jobs vary in length from 4 to 52 weeks. But the majority are 13 weeks long. If you went to work in the Caribbean or in another country, the contract could be up to 2 years in length.
A lot of the time when the contract is over the hospital the nurse was working in will offer them a full time position. This can be great if you happen to just fall in love with the hospital and city you were assigned to.
The benefits of working travel nursing jobs can be many. High salary is one, but this can vary from state to state and region to region. Never the less, it is almost always higher than the average. The housing costs have an impact on your pay as well. If you are in a high priced area your hourly rate can suffer somewhat.
A section of the IRS tax code states you can earn an amount of your hourly rate tax free if you are working at a facility more than fifty miles from the permanent place of residence. Travel nursing agencies guide you through the process of setting this up so you can bring home more money!
Travel nursing jobs are abundant, which means you as a nurse are in high demand. But with anything else, the top jobs go to the most qualified nurses. But not to worry, even starting out as a travel nurse you will find excitement and great benefits.
These are just some of the great many benefits of travel nursing jobs. The work is demanding. But anything worth it is, isn’t it? Not to worry though, all your effort will be greatly rewarded.
Financially, travel nursing jobs are very rewarding. But some of the most rewarding aspects of this line of work is knowing you helped out a great many people in need. And just remember to buy souvenirs for your family and friends if you go to work in a great location. Did anyone say Hawaii?!

The Modern Stethoscope Has Come A Long Way Since Its Invention
The stethoscope is an instrument that enables the physician to hear the sounds made by the heart, the lungs, and various other organs. The earliest stethoscope, devised by the French physician R. T. H. Laennec in the early 19th cent., consisted of a slender wooden tube about 1 ft (30 cm) long, one end of which had a broad flange, or bell-shaped opening.
The sounds of both breathing and of the hearts actions could be heard when it was placed against the chest with the physicians ear against the other end. Until the early twentieth century little had changed about the stethoscope until a New York doctor named G.P. Cammann developed the modern looking binaural instrument we see today.
It consisted of two earpieces with flexible rubber tubing connecting them to the two-branched metal chest cone. Thus the sounds could be heard with both ears, and the instrument’s flexibility permitted the physician to listen to various areas without changing his position.
The now modern day electronic versions of the stethoscopes allow more than one clinician to listen to the same bodily sounds from the same organ at once.
Listening with the stethoscope, also known as auscultation, used in conjunction with tapping on the chest is a fundamental means of diagnosis in modern medicine. The different ways sound is reflected back after tapping over an organ can tell the clinician about possible abnormalities of that organ.
The stethoscope in the hands of an experienced clinician can be used to detect abnormalities early on to allow for better treatment, and thus outcome for the patient.
The flexible vinyl, rubber, and plastic parts of stethoscopes should be kept away from solvents, including alcohol and soap. Solvents can have detrimental effects, including accelerating the natural aging process by dissolving the plasticizers that keep these parts flexible and looking new.
The acoustic performance of the stethoscope can be hindered if not lubricated periodically where the chest piece rotates around the tube. This can happen when the lubrication runs out and the finely tuned metal pieces rub against each other.
Keep in mind that most lubricants can degrade rubber and vinyl components so be sure to wipe off any excess after lubricating your stethoscope.

It’s A Great Time To Be A Registered Nurse
There are three nursing designations in the United States. They are licensed practical nurse (LPN) or, in some states, licensed vocational nurses (LVN), registered nurse (RN) and at the pinnacle, nurse practitioner (NP).
Lets examine the educational requirements for the registered nurse. There are 3 paths for the registered nurse. The most common is the Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN), this is a 2 year degree from an accredited college.
The second is the bachelor’s degree or BSN. This is also from an accredited college. The third and less common is the registered nurse diploma. These programs are received through training programs in hospitals and average around three years.
Many a registered nurse have enjoyed successful careers with a diploma, as opposed to an ADN or BSN degree, and found it to be no obstacle to succeeding in their profession.
The standardized test all registered nurses must pass is the NCLEX-RN. This exam challenges the prospective registered nurses knowledge of patient care needs and nursing concepts in general.
All states in the US require renewal of the registered nurse license every 2 years. Continuing education courses are required to be taken before a nurse can renew their license. The explosion in the nursing field everyone constantly hears about is not only because the aging baby boomers, but also because a large percentage of registered nurses are in that aging boomer population and are retiring.
A large percentage of the future growth in registered nurse jobs will be in the areas of physician offices, home health, out patient care centers. The idea of these is to help control healthcare costs.
The result of all this means more opportunities for the registered nurse as well as health care jobs in general.
According to the Gallup poll, for seven years running, nurses lead the list of most respected professions. If you seek job security, respect and fulfillment, becoming a registered nurse is an excellent career choice.
